Kathleen Riley

Lecturer of Computer Science
Computer Science Department
Bryn Mawr College

This is my second year teaching at Bryn Mawr College. It has been a great experience!

I am originally from the Washington D.C. area. I have an undergraduate degree in Economics from Wellesley College and a Master's Degree in Computer Science from Stanford University.

I got into computing when I was working at my first job as an analyst for a small transportation firm in the Boston area. Part of my job was to analyze data and write programs using APL, a specialized programming language which uses multidimensional arrays to represent complex data sets. I quickly realized that I had a real knack for and appreciation of the art and science of programming, and my career took a technical turn as I sought out those opportunities. I moved to the Silicon Valley in Northern California, where I lived for many years, working for the Hewlett-Packard Company (HP) as well as Silicon Graphics International (SGI), and earning my graduate degree at Stanford.

In addition to my work in industry, I taught AP Computer Science A/AB and other computer science courses at the high school level for many years. In my spare time, I like to swim, read, and fix household appliances. I have two children, both now in college, and a cat named Optimus Purr-ime.
