Assigned Work¶
The schedule specifies assigned readings of sections from chapters of the textbook. Completing these readings ahead of class is an excellent way to stay on track with the material. Appendix B of the textbook contains solutions to selected problems from the back of each chapter: these will be very useful as you prepare to do your homework.
In particular, you will be assigned weekly homework consisting of specified problems from the textbook. The problems have varying levels of difficulty, and working out correct solutions will steadily improve your facility with the material. As indicated in the schedule, homework will be due before Wednesday’s class (no exceptions) . Late submissions will be penalized heavily: 50% if delayed by upto 24 hours, and earning no credit thereafter.
The TAs for the course will take turns hosting weekly recitations on Fridays from 10am to 11am in one of the Park conference rooms (and I may drop in from time to time). Recitations are vital: you will get to see more examples and solutions to problems like those assigned in your homework. However, please note that recitations are not meant for the TAs to solve your homework problems!
